Men’s Pennants Round 5 Review

Our teams were back out on the course last weekend after the Anzac Day break. There were some promising individual and team performances. Division 4 picked up their first points for the season, winning a close one 4/3. Division 8 got over the line against Chequers 5.5/1.5 to keep their season alive. The standout performance of the week was Biff Brody who won 8&6 for Div 6 team who, despite losing their first match for the season, remain top.

Division 2 lost a nail biter 3/4 which is unfortunate for the boys coming off a win and with 2 winnable games to come they could have snuck into contention late on. Matt Nelson, Andrew Bleakley and Adam Baillie picked up wins. With all of our losses in this match up going down to the wire it really could have gone either way. The boys will look to get back to winning ways at home to Nedlands this weekend.

Division 4 picked up their first win for the year. Trevor Beazley, Gary Schecter and Matt McLaughlin picked up wins as the lads got up 4/3. The result is reward for effort as the performances have improved significantly as the season’s progressed. The boys will be looking to continue their form at home to WA golf club this weekend.

All good things must come to an end and unfortunately that was the case for Division 6’s remarkable winning streak. The boys went down 2/5 to Sun City despite wins from Darryl Hawkey (3&1) and Biff Brody (8&6). They remain on top and will look to cement that position this weekend against Chequers.

The division 7 boys went down narrowly, 3/4, to a strong Vines side in a spirited performance. Daniel Soderman, Martin West and Matt Clune picked up wins. They face the bottom placed Joondalup on the weekend however they have home advantage, so it should be a close contest.

Division 8 had a great 5.5/1.5 win over Chequers, lifting them back into contention coming up the closing rounds of the season. Elliot Reid, Shaun Tahemana, Glenn Facey and Marty Foster had wins, as did Gus Fernandez who won impressively 6&4. With games against The Vines and Mosman Park coming up in the closing weeks, the boys’ season is well and truly alive.
