Senior Pennants Round 1 Review

Published on 15th April 2021 in Uncategorized

Lakelands’ Senior Pennants campaign got off to a rocky start this week with all four teams playing away games and all losing – some badly whilst others were not too far off winning.

Our Green team ventured to Nedlands and on greens that were like glass, and in windy conditions, were defeated 5/0. Peter Lock and Trevor Freeman were our best performer only being beaten 2 down. Coming off our own greens which have been sanded and are slow, made it difficult for all. Next week they travel to Wanneroo looking for an improved performance.

The Black team lead by Eamon Rogers fared no better. Also losing 5/0. Their best loss was David Whitby and Bill Woodhams who took their match to the 16th hole going down 3 and 2.

Unfortunately for them their task doesn’t get much better having to travel to Chequers next week…

Hopefully Eamon will have a full team this week. His causes weren’t helped by one player pulling out in the days leading up to the first round.

Phil Crannage‘s Red Team played Mt Lawley and although going down 4 and 1, the respective matches were in several cases very close and with some luck could have resulted in a different outcome. Two matches were squared (Stand in Captain Graham Parry and Terry Curtis, and John Boron and Dion Bromilow). Two other loses were 3 and 2.  Next week they have another away match at Chequers.

Finally, our best performing team, Blue Division, led by John Drummond, nearly pulled off a great win, but went down in a closely contested match against Mt Lawley 3/2. Tony Saunders and Scott Blamey had a very good 4 and 3 win. Whilst halved matches were achieved by John Drummond with Steve Wells and Glen Hogan and Mo Shanks.

Our fixture draw this year is tough with all 4 teams playing their first three matches away, before returning to Lakelands for 3 homes games to finish off the year. Hopefully some teams will pinch an away win before we begin the run to the finals from home.

Good luck to all teams next week.
